Blurb from “Down Under”

I’ve just started to notice something here…it‘s getting very fresh as you sniff the cold morning breeze and you can feel that nip in the air as you go out of the house; we’ve turned our clocks an hour back and it gets darker earlier…which can only mean one thing… Yes, autumn has arrived again!  And my favourite part of autumn is when I get to snuggle up in bed under my comforter at the end of a tiring day.  But from the way it feels, it looks like we’re in for a really cold winter this year, something my body can hardly get used to.

Did you all have a wonderful Easter celebration?  We still have lots of Easter Eggs in the community and it’s just soooo hard to finish them off in just one sitting – someone even told me that as they are Easter Eggs they don’t have any calories!  I will tell Fr. Giulio and Fr. Regie about that.

This Easter has indeed been a busy time of year.  Nonetheless, we hope that your reflection on the life, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ has truly renewed your faith and brought peace and joy to your hearts.  For us here, it has rightly been an action-packed week celebrating that great, monumental and burning event in the history of our salvation.  Alleluia!

Last 13th April, another milestone took place in the life of the parish here.  Not only because it’s Good Shepherd Sunday and World Day of Prayer for Vocations but also because Fr. Dado Haber was officially installed as parish priest of Sacred Heart Church in Westmead.

Fr. Dado is the third Camillian to serve as parish priest of Sacred Heart Church.  After about six months of taking over the care of the parish, Fr. Dado was formally invested with all the duties, obligations and rights of the office of a parish priest.  None other than Bishop Kevin Manning of Parramatta Diocese presided over the celebration which started with an Aboriginal smoking ceremony outside the church.  All Camillian confreres of Australian Delegation concelebrated in the Mass including Fr. Raning Creta of the Filipino Chaplaincy.

The church was literally jam-packed to overflowing.  Parishioners came in their traditional costumes from their country of origin.  The various ministries in the parish and the local catholic schools were well represented.  Members of the Couples for Christ capably served as choir.

After the Mass, a ‘bring-a-plate’ lunch was shared and enjoyed by parishioners and visitors alike at the church grounds.  The parishioners described the celebrations truly well – awesome and fantastic!
