| Straight from a Camillian Heart |

Faithful Soldiers of Christ in the Healthcare WorldFidelity to our commitment as soldiers of Christ in the healthcare world is something that we have to work for. And we have to work hard for it!
We have to pass through a process of purification of our motivation in following Jesus in the religious life as Camillians. It is not a process of proving that we can do this or that so that we can gratify ourselves and/or impress others. It is actually a process of weeding out in us the things that are self serving. It is all about allowing Jesus to be first in our life. As faithful soldiers of Christ, we have to follow the chain of command. We have to follow Camillus as Christ's “chief of staff”… who said, “The sick are my lords and gods”; “we have to see Christ in the sick, and the sick should see Christ in us”. Moreover, we have to listen attentively to our ‘Commander in Chief ’ – Jesus, who said, “When I was hungry, you gave me food; thirsty and you gave me drink... naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me... whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers you do it unto me” (Mt. 25:35-36, 45). Whenever we are able to incarnate these commandments of the Lord faithfully and with joy in hearts, it is then that we become those faithful soldiers of Christ in the battlefield that God had given us. Furthermore, as soldiers of Christ in the healthcare world, we have to be courageous and creative in facing the many challenges that the ministry to the sick poses to us and at the same time able to exercise a well calculated risk to win the battle against sickness and dehumanizing attitudes towards the poor and the sick. Thus by doing so, we are able to put into action the promise we professed when we had our profession of vows. In front of God and the community we said: “....I promise God to serve the sick even in danger of my life". Let this promise be always a reality in our life so that at the end of our journey we may receive the pass to his Kingdom. |
