Divine Healer Choir Celebrates Another Year of Dynamic Apostolate

Last November 7, 2009, the DMC chapel choir celebrated its 2nd founding anniversary. The celebration started with an early morning thanksgiving mass officiated by the chaplain himself, Fr. Tex, M.I. The homily he inspiringly shared was meant not only for the choir members but also for the whole congregation.  Fr. Tex, disclosed that the occasion reminded him of some events in his life as a religious.

He recalled the responsibilities his superiors entrusted to him. Before coming to Davao from Manila, he served as the religious in-charge of St. Camillus Home of Charity, then as formator of Indonesian and Filipino seminarians. His challenging assignments showed his superior’s trust and confidence in his competence.  He said, “In every place you go, in every assignment you are given make the best out of it. It’s a blessing for us to be given the opportunity to grow from our different responsibilities and experiences. We should develop our God-given talents, abilities and potentials.  God has a purpose for calling us together, that is, to develop our talents and grow as persons and as Christians, and most importantly to grow in our service of God and neighbor by touching people’s lives through music. We are not experts in singing, but if our effort in singing is to touch the lives of people and to glorify God’s name, then we are the best singers in the eyes of God. I believe that God listens more to the voice of our hearts than the voice that comes from our lips.”  He reminded the group to be faithful to their calling and be grateful to God for His guidance.

He added, “We have started with simple purpose to make the Eucharist in DMC chapel a truly God-experience for everyone. Now, we have opened the door to where there’s an opportunity to touch people’s lives through the Eucharist. We have been receiving invitations for wedding celebrations and even Masses for the dead. This is indeed amazing.” Fr. Tex expressed his sincere appreciation for the great help the group has extended to him especially in animating the Holy Eucharist and the support they have shown in all chapel activities.

After the Mass, the group went to High Ponds Resort for a fun-filled and relaxing get-together.  To the Divine Healer Choir, congratulations and sail on! May you carry with you the inspiring message of our chaplain and make it be a constant reminder as you move along.  To God always be the praise and glory!

Our Lady Finds a Home in DMC

The DMC community is now blessed, through the help of generous benefactors, with the image of Our Lady Health of the Sick.  Last November 16, 2009, the Chapel of the Divine Healer, Davao Medical Center welcomed Our Lady just in time for her feast day.  The feast of Our Lady Health of the Sick is one of the major feasts that the Order of the Ministers of the Infirm celebrates. This commemoration manifests the Order’s special love for Mama Mary.

The statue was blessed by Fr. Tex, M.I. during the Mass, before the flag ceremony, which was sponsored by the Chaplaincy Office and the Camillian Family of Davao, Inc.  There was a short procession of the statue towards the chapel before the 12:15 noon Mass led by Fr. Tex and joined by the Pre-Theology Year seminarians of the St. Francis Xavier Major Seminary who are currently having their apostolate in the hospital.  Fr. Tex explained that with the coming of the image of Our Lady Health of the Sick to the chapel that is named after Jesus, the Divine Healer and where St. Camillus, the patron saint of the sick, is venerated, the chapel has become “complete.”  The fervent hope is for the devotion to Our Lady Health of the Sick to be promoted in Davao and the rest of Mindanao. At present it is believed that the new image in the chapel is the only one in Davao City if not the whole of Mindanao.
