Workshop on basic journalismLast January 22, 2009, eight scholastics writing for the Camillian Update attended a workshop on basic journalism. Miss Angela Constantino, Assistant Features Editor of Candy, a magazine published by Summit Media, conducted the seminar. She entitled the seminar “Write Tight” and discussed the basics of journalistic writing. Among other things, she stressed that “news writing is concise,” which means refraining from using many words when one will do. The workshop was meant to enhance the scholastics’ writing skills. Fr. Evan Paul Villanueva, MI and Ms. Veronica Villegas, who are part of the Camillian Update staff, participated in the workshop also. Proper Nutrition and Healthy DietThe scholasticate community in its pursuit of the goal to live a healthy lifestyle held a health forum on Proper Nutrition and Healthy Diet last January 28, 2009. Mrs. Olivia Osorio, RND and Mrs. Analiza Rones, RND, the resource speakers, discussed the importance of eating healthy foods. They showed us the pyramid food guide, which recommends minimal intake of fats, oils, sugar, and salt. The food guide showed that a healthy diet includes fish, poultry, dry beans, nuts, eggs, lean meat, low fat dairy, lots of vegetables, green salads, fruits or juices, as well as rice, root crops, corn, noodles, breads and cereals. Drinking a lot of water and clear broth is likewise highly recommended. The speakers stressed too that a healthy diet is not enough. One should have proper and regular exercise to burn fats and calories. The forum was indeed health-nourishing and edifying. Thanks to the Vocation and Apostolate Committee for spearheading the forum. Feast of the Conversion of St. CamillusThe community commemorated the conversion of our beloved Founder, St. Camillus, with a triduum from January 30 to February 1, 2009. The different committees spearheaded creative prayers and liturgy held during the three days. On the day of our Founder’s conversion, the community started the celebration with a creative prayer, praying that all Camillians the world over be always renewed in the spirit of conversion for greater and more effective ministry and witnessing of Christ’s love to the sick. In the evening, the community celebrated the Holy Eucharist with Fr. Mike Gimena, MI as presider, and our very own Fr. Boy Guinit as concelebrant. Fr. Mike emphasized the challenge to be always open to profound conversion in the daily undertakings of our life. 17th World Day of the SickOn the 17th World Day of the Sick, the community went to Amang Rodriguez Medical Center in Marikina City. The community had their apostolate and patients visitation from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The activity culminated with the Mass for the Sick presided over by our superior, Fr. Evan, MI and formator Fr. Boy, MI. Frs. Evan and Boy led the healing prayers for the sick in the hospital. They also administered the sacrament of anointing to those present in the Eucharistic celebration. This activity is one of the ways by which the community highlights the importance of doing apostolate and Camillian witnessing in unity. It was indeed an enriching experience for the whole community. We are deeply grateful to the administrators and the social service department of Amang Rodriguez Medical Center for accommodating us. |
