Chaplain on Call: The Chaplaincy in NKTI
Written by Sch. John Paul Alvarado, MI

NKTI at 25

The National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI) celebrated its 25th founding anniversary last year. It was commemorated for one whole year with construction and renovation projects carried out and special medical services offered free of charge to out-patients. The yearlong celebration culminated last December during the hospital Christmas party.

As the hospital developed, the chapel likewise underwent improvement.  It has been spruced up with new stained glass windows and a new carpet around the altar and on the aisles. The chaplaincy is very grateful to former patients who willingly shared their blessings for the chapel’s development. “Their donations are signs of their gratitude for the quality service that NKTI has given and shared with them when they were confined” shared Fr. Charly, MI, the hospital chaplain.

Book for a cause

The hospital also published a book which features the true stories and life experiences of kidney transplant patients. The book serves as inspiration and encouragement for those who are to undergo kidney transplant. Part of the book is a letter and article from the chaplaincy which supports the purpose of the publication.  In fact, the hospital in collaboration with the chaplaincy is planning to publish another book this time about the true stories and experiences of kidney donors. The chaplaincy is hopeful that this will inspire people to donate willingly, freely and responsibly.

10th anniversary pilgrimage

As early as now, the chaplaincy is busy preparing for the 10th anniversary pilgrimage in   2010. This pilgrimage which started in the year 2000 is part of the chaplaincy’s program to foster unity, collaboration and faith fellowship among the hospital employees.  The NKTI chaplaincy is inviting all the Camillians who were assigned in NKTI to join the pilgrimage. For more details kindly contact Fr. Charly Ricafort, MI (09082212505).
