Balugo Baloney
Written by Fr. Tom Welu, MI

Thank you,  Frs. Evan, Boy and the scholastics, for the card of congratulations for 41 yrs of priesthood, solemn profession and birthday wish.  It’s always nice to be remembered.

A couple of weeks ago I went to the new terminal 3 airport in Manila for a return flight to Dumaguete.   Little did I know it would be a nightmare journey.  The new airport was totally disorganized, under staffed and unfinished.  Passengers were treated like cattle by Cebu Pacific staff (no big shots were there).  It took two days to get to Dumaguete.  I won’t go into the details of this fiasco but will issue two warnings to future travelers by air and sea: Don’t travel on Sulpicio Line Ships and stay off Cebu Pacific Flights.   Of course if you are a masochist these precautions don’t apply.

Did you know that one in six Filipino school-age children is being “deprived” of education and the ranks of out of school youth are swelling?  This is according to a government study.  What a pity!  Of course the Catholic Church is being blamed for this problem because of its anti-artificial birth control stand.  What a bunch of baloney.  Hey I have a solution to the Church’s stand against artificial birth control.  If you don’t like it join another religion that permits it.

Here’s a question to think about and ponder over:  Why hasn’t any church representative come to Balugo in all the years I’ve been here to teach the people natural family planning?

Health Notes

Hey, all you overweight people – did you know that it takes 55 minutes of exercise a day, five days a week to loose weight. This is according to a University of Pittsburg, U.S.A. study.

Almost half of the 150 billion business of the pharmaceutical industry in RP has been lost to corrupt and unethical practices, a think tank stated.  Is it any wonder that the Philippines is #1 in corruption in Asia?

On another happy note, the use of cell phones are linked to cancer risk, the head of a USA cancer research institute warned.  Use headphones to be on the safe side.

On that note of prevention, the Baloney will be on vacation to cover the US elections this November.  Be back with more exciting and relevant news this December.

Until then, Fr. Tom Welu, MI
