Thanks be to God! It was a fair day. The weather was good though dark specks in the sky were seen. It was September 5, 2008. This day marked the beginning of new hope for Camillus Medhaven and the entire Philippine province. It was the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a two story building with a sixty bed capacity.

From September 15 to 19, the Camillian novices commuted daily to the Montfort Fathers House in New Manila to attend the modular course on “Enneagram and Spirituality.” They fearlessly fought for space in the crowd at the LRT Santolan station just to reach the venue before 8:30 AM.

Brother Santa Claus has left the town.For these few months of stay in the community of Calbayog, I had the chance to live with our older religious. We were four in the beginning, Bro. Angelino. Fr. Luigi, Fr. James and me. It is wonderful to have them in the community. But now we are only two in the community. Last August 07, 2008, Fr. Luigi left for vacation in Italy and on the same day Bro. Angelino bid goodbye to the community because he was going back to Italy. After spending almost thirty years of ministry in the Philippines, Bro. Angelino, often called Santa Claus by the children, returned to his motherland (but I pray that he will be back…).

Last September 17, 2008 Fr. Ivo Anselmi, MI, Provincial Superior of the Philippine Province, presided over the Eucharist and instituted the qualified scholastics to the ministries of lectors and acolytes. Fr. Evan Paul, MI and Fr. Boy, MI concelebrated in the mass.

The meeting of local superiors held at the St. Camillus Provincialate last September 23, 2008 drew perfect attendance. Eight local superiors gathered with the Provincial Superior for a meeting that was held in line with the operational indication no. 2 of the chapter on charism, spirituality and community life of the Three Year Plan of the Philippine Province.

Last August 8, 2008, the chaplaincy office, assisted by the Camillian Family (CF), celebrated the 11th foundation anniversary of the Chapel of the Divine Healer with the whole Davao Medical Center (DMC) community. Most Rev. Fernando R. Capalla, D.D, Archbishop of Davao, presided at the thanksgiving mass, with Fr. Cruzito Manding, a Redemptorist priest, and our very own chaplain, Fr. Tex, MI concelebrating.

Filipino Gala Evening
In the region of North Rhein Wesfalia, the existing Filipino organizations are organizing carefully their schedule of main activities to avoid overlapping of dates and schedules. Last August 23, the Filipino-German Organization in Wuppertal celebrated its summer gala evening. As chaplains, Fr. Weber and Fr. Manny were invited, together with the out-going consul in Bonn, Consul Gary Auxilian, as guests of honor.
